Throw Me The Statue "Lolita" directed by Matt Daniels

Hi all, I'm back from South Florida now... I'll post some pics from my trip this weekend. For now, enjoy some hot video action, this week's newbie:
Throw Me The Statue "Lolita" directed by my pal Matt Daniels.

Boy has Matt come a long way... remember this vid? It was the first one he made back in '04, starring me as the skater girl. I'm hoping that he'll ask me to do another video soon... this time for The Helio Sequence??

Electroma (aka Daft Punk movie)

Happy Monday Humans!

It's raining in Seattle (shocker) and I just got done viewing an advanced copy of the Electroma DVD (thanks Jamie @ Vice!) also known as the Daft Punk movie oddessey. It runs about 70 mins long and it's super bizarre - somewhere between drama/sci-fi - but uber cool. There is absolutely no dialogue throughout the entirety of the film and very minimal music which wasn't what I had expected since it is a movie about a band er robots.
The cinematography is beautifully executed though; lots of long shots and it sort of has this nostalgic 70s quality to it. I love the moments when they are just driving thru the desert and cruising through what seems to be a very normal suburban landscape. My favorite part is when their faces begin to melt off... reminds me of some effed up Chris Cunningham stuff. Cool stuff. Anyways, the US release for the DVD is July 11th, but if you want an advanced viewing, hit me up and I'll letcha borrow the screener.

Sing Sing @ War Room, Friday nights

Death of the Party

I can't believe I've never been out to one of these nights until last night. Well, I guess I've experienced Sing Sing before it became a huge dance night in Seattle (pre-War Room) and once during the '07 Cap Hill Block Party, but that doesn't really count since we were just passing through Neumo's (where the throw down was at), and where Girl Talk performed the evening before... hard to captivate an audience after an act like that... but man, last night was great! I actually got my granny ass to come out with Brendan (some how I convinced him) and we had a really fun time. The music was good and the venue [War Room] was packed with no other than Zebra club fashionistas, stylish hipsters, yo boys, and loads of twenty-somethings out to have a good time. Not really my scene since I'm more into divey punk bars or even staying at home and watching re-runs of Law and Order, but I can definitely see the attraction here. I had a beer and a Dewar's with ginger and in no time, I was out on the dance floor shaking a leg. Alpha (Clayton's wife I used to skate with) was there too which was cool cause I haven't talked to her in a while but we kicked it and she snapped a few pics of me for her blog. Be sure to check DISCOFUNBATH so you can see how silly I look. Anyways, it was good times all and all, I'm looking forward to coming out to Sing Sing again... check it out if you haven't yet already.

Editorial backwash

Music reviews are so funny. Especially when editors use the same phrases to describe a sound. I guarantee 1 out of 2 of you that read this have stumbled upon these words in Pitchfork, online, or in some music publication. In fact I just heard a KEXP DJ talking of "soundscapes." I've probably used these words one time or another myself, but just had to point it out again since it's kinda hilarious to me. Maybe even becoming it's own genre, like "shoegazer"?

"angular guitars" .... "shimmering syths"... "atmospheric soundscapes"...

I think I'm going to throw a quarter in a jar every time I see or hear these words - add an extra 5 cents if paired together!
