Portland 2007

It's 2007 and I'm just now beginning to use this thing. I've had a Myspace account and Friendster for over 3 years now, but rarely do I blog/record my daily happenings or make them public for that matter, but it's a New Year and I'm not getting younger so I figure it may be worth it to look back on these fleeting moments since my memory hasn't been as sharp... or so it seems!

Time is flying by faster than ever before and I sometimes feel like I can't catch up. A lot has happened in the past year...
My brother got married and had a baby last August, Brendan and I have travelled to Europe, Scandinavia, Mexico & SE Asia, and I've been lucky enough to have a good steady job for the past 3 years, yet I'm feeling kind of restless and unsatisfied. Routine can get boring after a while and I feel that it's time to make a splash. Not quite sure what that 'splash' will be or where it will take me but something tells me that it's going to happen and soon before I know it...

Back to the basics....

This weekend was above average. Brendan and I rented a car and drove down to Portland for the weekend to visit friends and do a little tax-free shopping. It was a pretty uneventful trip but nice to get out of Dodge for a bit since we had President's day off.

We stayed with Axel - an old college pal of mine who was extremely hospitable and went to a couple bars with some old friends of ours. Greater Trumps off of good 'ol Hawthorne & The Florida Bar which was pretty cool. The interior of this place was as kitschy as the name but it was exactly where we wanted to be. You can still smoke in the bars in Portland too which I forgot about. My jacket and jeans wreaked of ciggies after leaving that joint but I totally dug that old dive-bar feeling that I used to know.

Later that evening we hit up a house party on NE Monroe... saw my musical high school chum, Skyler and kicked it with him and Brendan's posse (Shane and Peter - NY transplants) for a while. We danced, drank and spilled drinks b/c there were so many peeps jammed into that house. It was good times. Reminiscent of old college house parties. Finally we returned to Axel's at around 3am eating leftover Mexican food (thanks Axel!) and passing out in our freezing ice box guest room (thanks again Axel!). It was good times but I am done with the party lifestyle. I don't like being cold, tired and hung over. It was a good reminder.

The soundtrack for the weekend (drive from Seattle to Portland vice-versa): Peter Bjorn and John (great album & I hope I don't get burned out), Knife, Grizzly Bear, Marie-Antoinette Sountrack (Gang of Four, Bow Wow Wow, Aphex Twin, Radio Dept, Strokes, New Order), TV on the Radio, Asobi Seksu, Fiery Furnaces, Folk Music complilation that Brendan brought along, Dungen. Oh and if I didn't mention earlier, the Grizzly Bear show on Friday night was amazing. I think I'm going to have to buy their new album next time I'm at Easy Street....
